About

A retired arts and media teacher, I have worked in photography and graphic arts for 35 years and have a Diploma of Photography and Certificates IV in Multimedia and Teaching & Training. In spite of this I always feel there is so much more to learn. The love of the art has never left me and I am still as excited about the next photo as I ever was.

For the last 25 years I have chosen to live and work on the beautiful Mid-North Coast of New South Wales. Its beaches, wetlands, grasslands and forests are rich in wildlife; bird photography is my passion.

Trips to photograph wildlife start early, sometimes in trying weather. Even if things don't go to plan, with the target species elusive, something wonderful and totally unexpected always happens.

As a member of Hastings Birdwatchers, I am involved in their Australian Waders Study Group, counting migratory waders once a month. These birds fly incredible distances non-stop between Australia and their breeding grounds in Siberia and Alaska; I find that totally phenomenal.

By photographing waders I hope to make people aware not only of their subtle beauty but also of widespread loss of habitat both here and overseas, where mud flats and salt marsh feeding grounds are being reclaimed for development.

We live in a parallel universe with all living things. We are losing their worlds before we have begun to explore, conserve or even understand them.
